Whether it be original characters like Han Solo and R2-D2, or newer ones like Kylo Ren and Poe Dameron, the Star Wars saga has given us countless wonderful characters over the years that we've all fallen in love with. However, thanks to the variety of spin-offs that have been produced, a lot of these characters that didn't reach their full potential or just weren't given enough screen time to truly be appreciated, have improved vastly. Some of which even ended up becoming fan favourites. Let's take a look at who improved the most. (Only canon material will be used.)
Honourable mentions: Barriss Offee, Admiral Ackbar, Wat Tambor.
10. Bounty Hunters
(Bossk / IG-88 / Dengar / Aurra Sing)
(Bossk / IG-88 / Dengar / Aurra Sing)
The scene from The Empire Strikes Back with Darth Vader addressing the bounty hunters is iconic. Besides Boba Fett, the others only got mere seconds of screen time, yet still became popular among the fans for their unique designs. Because of The Clone Wars we got to see plenty of Bossk and Aurra Sing, plus Dengar in one episode played by Simon Pegg.
Spin-off appearances: The Clone Wars / Comics.
9. Jar Jar Binks
Jar Jar Binks is known for being the most annoying character in the saga, and rightfully so. However, as The Clone Wars progressed, Jar Jar begun to get more and more tolerable to the point where I actually liked him. His major change occurred during the Battle of Mon Cala, where instead of being a clumsy fool, he led the Gungan Army into battle, fought bravely, and even saved Padmé Amidala's life. And how can I forget that he was the lover of a respected Queen. Jar Jar has game!

8. Grand Moff Tarkin
If you ever wondered why Darth Vader obeyed Tarkin's orders without question in A New Hope, well now we know why. He may look like a frail aged man on the outside, but Tarkin is a formidable foe, both as a commander and in hand-to-hand combat, with an incredibly dominating presence about him. The comics even allowed us to see Tarkin defeat Darth Vader in a hunt. Yes you read that correctly, Tarkin beat Darth Vader.
Spin-off appearances: Rogue One / The Clone Wars / Rebels / Comics.
7. Jocasta Nu
That annoying old librarian from Attack of the Clones you're thinking, right? Well it turns out Jocasta Nu is a bit of a badass. After Order 66 wiped out most of the Jedi and the Empire took control of the galaxy, Darth Vader was tasked with hunting down all Jedi survivors, including Jocasta. After engaging the Grand Inquisitor in a duel, she took on Darth Vader with a lightsaber rifle. I can see why she survived for so long.
Spin-off appearances: The Clone Wars / Comics.
6. Count Dooku
Count Dooku was a great villain in the prequel trilogy, but he was taken to an entirely new level in The Clone Wars. With the mastery of his lightsaber, a gracefully acrobatic fighting style, and his powerful connection to the Force, very few were able to overpower the Sith Lord. It makes me wonder why Palpatine didn't just keep Dooku as his apprentice instead of putting in all of that effort into Anakin.
Spin-off appearances: The Clone Wars / Comics.
5. Prequel Trilogy Jedi
(Kit Fisto / Plo Koon / Aayla Secura / Shaak Ti / Luminara Unduli)
The Star Wars films have always been packed full of unique background characters who never got a chance to truly shine. Thanks to The Clone Wars, these Jedi who were once used to fill in space now have their own stories and personalities, and feel like important characters in the Star Wars universe. Kit Fisto was a favourite of mine ever since I saw his famous smile in Attack of the Clones, so I was thrilled to see him get his own episode of The Clone Wars where he overpowered General Grievous in a duel. I can't expand on them all, but the other standouts during this series were Plo Koon, Aayla Secura, Shaak Ti, Luminara Unduli, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Eeth Koth, and Depa Billaba. Order 66 is now much more emotional to see in Revenge of the Sith, as you've gotten to know and love every single one of these Jedi.
Spin-off appearances: The Clone Wars / Comics.
4. Darth Vader
Darth Vader had already been established as one of the greatest villains in cinema history once the original trilogy had ended, but in recent years they somehow managed to double his greatness. A lot of people will agree that his most badass moment was at the end of Rogue One where he cut down the Rebel squadron in the corridor. Then we have his role in Star Wars: Rebels, where he comes face to face with his old Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, giving us one of the greatest duels yet. If that wasn't enough, his appearances in the Marvel comic series take everything up a notch. We get to witness Darth Vader's full potential as he pulls of feats that would rival Master Yoda and Emperor Palpatine.
Spin-off appearances: Rogue One / The Clone Wars / Rebels / Comics / Jedi: Fallen Order.
3. Anakin Skywalker
Like many, I wasn't a big fan of Anakin in the prequel trilogy. I found his character both dull and frustrating, but they somehow fixed that in The Clone Wars. He ended up becoming a fun and heroic, yet charming and cocky Jedi Knight. Plus the seeds for him eventually turning to the dark side were still there, so he never felt out of character. If we'd gotten this version of Anakin the prequels, he would've been far more popular.
Spin-off appearances: The Clone Wars.
2. Clone Troopers
The clone troopers were nothing more than expendable soldiers in the prequel trilogy. Once again, The Clone Wars completely turned that around. From the very first episode in the series they made a strong point in showing that every single clone was unique. Whether it be from their personality, the way they spoke, patterns on their armour, or even haircuts, you were able to recognize each of them instantly. Captain Rex and ARC trooper Fives even became fan favourites quite quickly. It's now a whole lot more emotional to see the clones turn on their fellow commanders during Order 66 in Revenge of the Sith.
Spin-off appearances: The Clone Wars / Rebels.
1. Darth Maul
How do you take a one-off villain with mere minutes of screen time who ended up being sliced in half, only to bring them back to become one of the greatest Star Wars characters of all time? Well The Clone Wars did exactly that, and they did it perfectly. With nothing but his hatred for Obi-Wan Kenobi keeping him alive, Maul returned with the sole purpose of killing the Jedi who defeated him on Naboo all those years ago. On this journey he ended up becoming the leader of the most powerful crime syndicate in the galaxy and the ruler of the planet Mandalore. However, his greatest moments were during the final episodes of the series, where we got to witness Maul's unexpected, yet absolutely amazing involvement in Order 66. If you've ever wanted to see someone take down an enourmous starship from the inside out, then Maul shows you exactly how it's done. The emotional, yet satisying end to his character arc comes during one final confrontation between him and Obi-Wan during Star Wars: Rebels.
Spin-off appearances: Solo / The Clone Wars / Rebels / Comics.
