Grand Theft Auto V has one of the best gaming open worlds to date. The amount of detail Rockstar put in is second to none, and after personally the resemblance to the real Los Angeles is uncanny. After spending countless game time hours over the years, it's time to look back on my journey and see what the best locations were, all the way from the glamourous city to the barren desert. You can take a full look at the map refer to here.
Honourable mentions: Vinewood Hills, Lago Zancudo, Pacific Bluffs, International Airport.
10. Paleto Bay
As one of the last locations you visit in the story, Paleto Bay is completely out of the way from the rest of the island. It's a small town without a lot going on, but sometimes it's nice to get away from the main locations and see what you can find hidden away.
9. Vespucci
If I could choose one place to live on the map, I'd likely say Vespucci. It's quiet and relaxing, there's river canals surrounding the neighbourhood, and the beach is just a short walk away. That sounds like the perfect lifestyle while staying on an island of chaos.
8. Downtown Los Santos
Full of hulking skycrapers and construction around each corner, Downtown Los Santos is where you spend a large portion of the game. With crowds going to work and shopping at the many shops during the day, it's just as full of life as the actual Los Angeles. As impressive as it may be upon first visit, it's not as scenic or interesting as the rest of the locations on this list. Although it does make for a stunning backdrop.
7. Grapeseed
Grapeseed is a large area of farmlands out past the Grand Senora Desert. With plenty of nice little details, like the variety of farm animals and crop dusters flying across the skies, it really feels like your out in the countryside. After spending so long around the bustling city and always being on the run from the law, it's nice to have a change of tone when visiting locations like this.
6. South Los Santos
If there's one location that could represent the series as a whole, it'd be South Los Santos. There's trouble waiting around every corner, but that's what makes this place so enjoyable. A large portion of the first act takes place here, which helps set the tone for everything that's to come in this story full of crazy characters and adventures.
5. Mount Chilliad
There's a lot of mystery surrounding this mountain. After countless years, the Mount Chilliad mystery has still yet to be solved, that's if there ever was one to begin with. As the highest point on the map, you're rewarded with amazing views once you reach the summit. One of my favourite missions involves parachuting to the peak and racing to the bottom on a mountain bike.
4. Rockford Hills / Richman
The golf course alone was enough to earn the GTA equivelent of Beverly Hills a spot on this list. Add in the expensive shopping areas and the luxurious mansions, then Rockford Hills and Richman are easily some of the most beautiful parts of the map.
3. Vinewood
Modelled after Hollywood, they captured everything about Vinewood's real life counterpart perfectly. From the streets filled with neon signs, to the people in costumes promoting new films, it's incredible what the game designers pulled off. The Walk of Fame and Chinese Theater are personal highlights of mine.
2. Sandy Shores / Grand Senora Desert
There may not be a whole lot in Sandy Shores, but that's why I love it so much. Like I said with Grapeseed, it's fun to drive away from the city and see what the quieter places on the island have to offer. The characters, missions and overall atmosphere are the complete opposite of Los Santos, which played a major part in holding my interest and excitment in the game.
1. Vespucci Beach / Del Perro Pier
The top spot goes to the stunning Vespuci Beach. They managed to capture the feeling of the real life Santa Monica perfectly, with the golden sand, smooth waves, and beautiful sunny weather. There's incredible details that would put a smile on the face of anyone who's vacationed there. I'd even go as far to say that Del Perro Pier has the most accurate real life representation on the entire map. No matter how many times I visited Vespuci Beach, I'd always be blown away.
